Abruzzo waves the 19 Yellow Flags of “ComuniCiclabili”

The seventh edition of ComuniCiclabili-Fiab (Italian Federation of Environment and Bicycle) givesAbruzzo as many as 19 yellow flags as proof of the growing involvement of the Green Region of Europe in promoting cycling as a model of sustainable mobility.

The prestigious award, aimed at bike-friendly cities for the current year, goes to four towns in inland Abruzzo ( Teramo, L’Aquila, Tocco da Casauria and Rapino) and the 15 stretching from north to south along the entire Adriatic coast of Abruzzo ( Martinsicuro, Corropoli, Alba Adriatica, Tortoreto, Giulianova, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Pineto, Silvi, Montesilvano and Pescara, Francavilla al Mare, Ortona, Fossacesia, Vasto and San Salvo).

The mayors and administrators of the virtuous municipalities have already collected their yellow flag, the certificate with the score and the corresponding “Bike Smiles.” The classic emoji with a smiley face and, in this case with eyes shaped like bike wheels, certify the level achieved by the Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation ‘s ratings and range from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 5.

In Abruzzo’s special smiley face ranking , Alba Adriatica, Tortoreto and Pineto lead the pack boasting 4 Bike Smiles each.

To date, 200 Italian municipalities are members of the Network of MunicipalitiesCyclable-Fiab and from September there is the start of the eighth edition with the possibility of joining or renewing to win the 2025 flag.
