Angelo Borrelli, head of the Civil Defense Department and commissioner for the Covid-19 emergency visited the headquarters of Strada dei Parchi today.
The priority and urgency of interventions on an infrastructure that passes through a seismically very active area were emphasized by Borrelli: “I am happy to be here, in the operations room of Strada dei Parchi with which we collaborate for the safety of our fellow citizens,” began the Civil Protection chief. Borrelli then stressed that, “The road infrastructure of A24 and A25 is important, neuralgic also to ensure the rescue and assistanceactivities to the population, so we trust – he then stressed -that as soon as possible it can be modernized and can allow us to be able to intervene in any condition, even in case of natural disaster.”
Prior to his visit to the operations room, the civil defense chief had a meeting with top management of the Concessionaire represented by CEO Riccardo Mollo, the Concessionaire’s president and vice president, Cesare Ramadori and Mauro Fabris, respectively. Borrelli was briefed on the plans for the final safety mesa of the two infrastructures, currently under discussion with the acting commissioner.
The SDP Operations Room, represents the interface with the Civil Protection in case of emergencies affecting Central Italy. In particular, since 2012, following the dramatic earthquake in L’Aquila, the A24 and A25 freeways have been identified as “strategic arteries” for Civil Protection purposes. The network managed by Strada dei Parchi crosses areas of the country where, since 2009, there has been an uninterrupted series of earthquakes, starting with the devastating one in L’Aquila, which was followed by the one in Amatrice. Between the two catastrophic events, a succession of tremors of varying intensity have reminded us in recent years that the A24 and A25 are the only quick access route for relief efforts, a strategic asset for the country, whose accessibility and functionality are a guarantee for all of central Italy.
