European Mobility Week 2025: mobility for all even on highways

From September 16 to 22, European Mobility Week, the annual event established by the European Commission to promote a sustainable and accessible future for all, returns. This year, the initiative focuses on the theme “Mobility for All”. The goal is to raise awareness among citizens and institutions about the importance of adopting greener and more inclusive transportation alternatives, such as cycling, public transport and shared mobility. It is not only about reducing emissions, but also about improving air quality with smarter solutions and making our cities more livable.

Events and initiatives in the area

The area served by the A24 and A25 highways is also actively participating in this awareness week. In particular, L’Aquila will be a focal point with initiatives encouraging soft mobility. Among the most significant events, cyclo-tourism and bicycle use are the focus. For example, the “Shopping is done by Bike” initiative is planned, organized in collaboration with several associations. These activities not only promote a sustainable alternative to the car, but also create an opportunity for the community to discover their local area in a new and healthy way.

Pescara deploys a packed schedule of events throughout the week that coincides with the opening of the new Velostation on Via Alessandro Volta (Porta Nuova area), scheduled for Monday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m., which will offer 40 video-monitored bike parking spaces in connection with the urban bicycle network. Also new is the trolleybus, which went into service on September 11 and is already showing encouraging results. The program will continue on Thursday, Sept. 18, with the Bike to work and Giretto d’Italia initiatives, a day dedicated to home-to-work and home-to-school travel by bicycle, and will conclude with a conference and a bike ride to discover the “Green Way” on the Riverfront on Sunday, Sept. 21.

A number of events are also planned in the province of Chieti to mark this important week. In Fossacesia, a series of initiatives promoted by the municipal administration are reported. It begins on Wednesday, September 17, with the “Piedibus,” during which children will walk to school in groups, accompanied by volunteers and parents. On Saturday, September 20, it will be the turn of “Bimbi in bici,” a collective pedaling to promote the use of bicycles as an environmentally friendly and fun means of transportation. Departure is scheduled at 10 a.m. from Fantini Square with arrival in San Giovanni in Venere. The event is open to all children and their families.

In Rome, theDepartment of Mobility, The Department of Sustainable Mobility and Transportation, and Roma Servizi per la Mobilità are activepromoters and protagonists of events throughout the week. Ad hoc initiatives are being organized in all municipalities: pedestrianizations, inaugurations of 30 zones or school roads, archaeological walks, conferences and more. On the Roma Servizi per la Mobilità website it is possible to follow the program of events spread throughout the municipality, which is constantly being updated.

Strada dei Parchi’s commitment to sustainable and safe mobility

Strada dei Parchi, as the operator of a 281.4-kilometer highway network linking two regions and six provinces, is fully committed to ensuring the safety, efficiency and, increasingly, the sustainability of traffic that shows a stable trend of 3.3 percent growth and more than 4 percent growth for heavy vehicles over the past year. Our mission is to offer the best possible assistance to the traveler, a commitment that is reflected in state-of-the-art operational management.

To ensure these high standards, we have a fleet of more than 130 vehicles for maintenance and rescue operations, with a focus on low-emission vehicles. Currently, our fleet includes 53 hybrid and electric vehicles, supported by 41 charging stations spread throughout the highway network. This allows us to intervene in a timely and effective manner while reducing environmental impact.

Safety remains our top priority. More than 70 auxiliaries travel the highways daily, offering assistance to users every kilometer. Added to this is the constant synergy with Civil Defense, Traffic Police, Fire Brigade and 118, to ensure an immediate response to any emergency.

In addition, we are prepared to face even the most extreme challenges, such as winter challenges, thanks to a fleet of more than 200 vehicles and a team of more than 400 people dedicated to preventing ice formation and responding to snowfall.

With these initiatives and its ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability, Strada dei Parchi is fully in tune with the goals of European Mobility Week, demonstrating how even the management of such a complex infrastructure can contribute to a greener, more accessible and safer future for all.
