Jubilee meets the future of humanity

From July 28 to August 3, Rome will embrace the future in a special week full of meetings and events to mark the Youth Jubilee.

It starts on Monday 28 with the arrival of the pilgrim groups that will take part in the big event. To cope with the influx, Roma Servizi per la Mobilità has prepared a massive parking plan for torpedos with 9,000 parking stalls distributed in 11 different areas, from Tor Vergata to Monterotondo. The objective is twofold: to enhance the parking supply and to facilitate the approach to the Tor Vergata area, the fulcrum of the Jubilee event. At the time of reservation and related parking assignment, buses will also be shown the route to follow to reach their respective stalls. All information for reservation and stall assignment can be found on the official Roma Mobilità website.

As part of the reception plan envisioned by the City of Rome, 284 schools in Rome and Lazio will host boys and girls, mostly in gyms repurposed for the occasion as dormitories. From Friday, July 4, and until Aug. 3, an infopoint for welcoming pilgrims will be active daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Via dell’Ospedale No. 1.

Tuesday will include a grand welcome Mass in St. Peter’s Square, starting at 6 p.m. Culminating this extraordinary week will be the closing days of Aug. 2 and 3, with the first Vigil at the Calatrava Sails at Tor Vergata and the closing Mass in the presence of Pope Leo XIV. On these final days of Saturday and Sunday, service on the subway lines and regional railways will be enhanced, with extension of subway service from 4:30 a.m. until 1:30 a.m. the following day.

There will be no shortage of moments of entertainment and cultural and artistic insight, spread throughout the Capital’s districts and neighborhoods. The week’s program is available on the official Jubilee website. All the practical information for participating in the events, from the Jubilee pass to the pilgrim’s kit, directions on mobility, safety and advice can be found in the vademecum in 6 languages or in the official Iubilaeum25 app downloadable from the website.

But there is not only Rome in this year of reconciliation and spirituality. Starting Aug. 23, L’Aquila will welcome tourists and the faithful for the 731st edition of the Perdonanza. The first jubilee of the Christian community, recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, was in fact desired in L’Aquila by Celestine V with the Bull of Forgiveness in 1294, six years before the first Jubilee was held in Rome.

In this special year, the A24 highway, linking Rome to L’Aquila with 110 kilometers on two carriageways, has the privilege of connecting two centers of spirituality that ideally come together in a peaceful invasion of pilgrims for a common journey of faith and hope.
