Weekend

Sports, exhibitions and flavors traveling from Rome to Abruzzo

Between Rome and Abruzzo, the mid-January 2026 weekend is an invitation to hit the road: a few miles, many different worlds, all connected by the A24 and A25 highways.

Rome: between sports and flavors

Sunday morning, Rome puts on its competitive shoes for the Miguel’s Run, the historic race created in 2000 to remember Miguel Sanchez, the Venezuelan poet and runner who was kidnapped in January 1978 and never found. It starts from Lungotevere Maresciallo Diaz to cross the finish line at the Olympic Stadium with three routes: the competitive and non-competitive 10 km at 9:30 a.m., the 5 km “Generation Miguel” from Ponte Milvio and the Strantirazzismo walk from Ponte della Musica . A race of sports, values and memory.

Not far away, in the large spaces of Eataly Ostiense, the Cacio e Pepe Festival (Jan. 16-18) returns (now in its seventh edition), an event that offers traditional dishes and creative reinterpretations, including showcooking and street food: a tasty homage to the most authentic Roman spirit.

Cervia Mountain: scenic trekking

Leaving the capital, the A24 highway leads toward the nature of the Turano Valley. From the Carsoli exit it is easy to reach the “The Sky Above the Turano” hike, a ridge trek scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 18. The trail opens up to sweeping views of the lake, traversing quiet woods to the summit of Mount Cervia, where the sky seems to touch the mountains and water below.

Isola del Gran Sasso: contemporary sacred art

Continuing along the A24 and exiting at S. Gabriele/Colledara, the Sanctuary of San Gabriele hosts the 16th Biennial of Contemporary Sacred Art, dedicated to the theme “Prophets of Hope, Creators of Beauty.” An intense exhibition, hosted at the Stauròs Museum and open until Jan. 31, 2026, that combines spirituality and modern artistic languages in a highly evocative place .

Pescara: theater and artistic visions

Heading down to the Adriatic along the A25, Pescara offers two special appointments.
At Basilio Cascella Civic Museum, the visit-show “Falsi d’Attore” (Jan. 18, 5 p.m.) transforms the halls into a living stage, where actors improvise scenes inspired by the audience itself .

Not far away, at the Museum of the People of Abruzzo, Saturday, Jan. 17 opens the exhibition “Stars and Tears,” a poetic and symbolic journey through Mario Vespasiani’s imagery of stars, memories and visionary figures.

The perfect journey of culture, nature and taste

From the streets of the Capital to the views of the Turano River and the museums of Pescara, the weekend offers different opportunities but united by a single thread: the possibility of discovering them all easily thanks to the A24 and A25 highways, which connect territories rich in history, tradition and beauty.
