In this tragic accident 262 people lost their lives.
Among them were 136 Italians. As many as 62 were from Abruzzo, mostly from towns in the Maiella area: Manoppello, Lettomanoppello, Turrivalignani, Farindola.
Since 1990, the Bois du Cazier mine has been a historical monument, a place of remembrance where every year the National Day of the Sacrifice of Italian Labor in the World is celebrated.
