Traffic forecast: schedule through Sept. 14

With the arrival of summer, millions of Italians hit the road to vacation destinations. But dealing with highway traffic on the hottest and busiest days can turn excitement into stress. That’s why there is increasing talk of “smart departures”: carefully choosing your departure day and time can make all the difference. Traveling in the early morning hours or on weekdays, avoiding red-ticket days, and consulting real-time traffic bulletins are just some of the best practices for getting off on the right foot.

To this end, in order to avoid possible inconveniences and slowdowns, it is advisable to consult thetraffic forecast calendarwith the dates of truck stoppages before setting out, in order to better plan departures.

From the end of July to the beginning of September, red dot traffic days are expected along the A24 and A25 highway sections, especially during the exodus and counter-exodus for the summer break:

  • Sunday, July 20, in the direction of Rome, from the early afternoon hours;
  • Friday, July 25, leaving the capital city in the afternoon;
  • Saturday 26, on the way out of Rome, during the morning;
  • Sunday 27, heading to Rome in the afternoon.

These are the red dot dates for the month of August, with weekends through the 14th affected by heavy traffic leaving the capital and the last two Sundays of the month characterized by impressive return flows to Rome, particularly in the afternoon:

September will feature normal summer outbound and inbound flows to weekend destinations, with larger flows returning to Rome in the afternoons of the first two Sundays:

The calendar also includes times for traffic bans for heavy trucks with a total mass exceeding 7.5t even if unloaded.

For a complete calendar of traffic forecasts on the entire national highway network, we recommend visiting the Viabilità Italia website where all details and updates provided by the Traffic Police can be consulted.

In any case, the Traffic Police reiterates the importance of and respect for the rules of the Highway Code in order to prevent accidents and traffic disruptions. • Check the maintenance of the vehicle before the trip and especially tires and brakes
  • Fasten seat belts, both front and rear, and place children in the appropriate seats
  • Observe speed limits and safe distance
