On Sunday, June 9, the 12th edition of the event Walking in the Parks, on the occasion of National Trails Day, a national event organized by CAI and Federparchi, which promotes nature and cultural hiking. The purpose of the event is to walk in freedom to discover the landscapes and wonders of Italy’s mountains and Parks, meeting on the trails to share a relaxing and rejuvenating day immersed in the Environment. The tagline for the day is. Paths to Know: it aims to create a virtuous circle based on “walking to know, knowing to love, loving to protect.”
To this end, there will be a series of appointments and hikes by each CAI Section, Regional Groups, Associations, Protected Area and adhering Institutions that will propose initiatives on the theme of trails: from the classic cognitive outing to maintenance or signage intervention, from the inauguration of a restored trail to an exhibition or trail course. In Cammino nei Parchi thus promotes nature and cultural hiking for everyone, from the young to the not-so-young, families, hiking enthusiasts and neophytes to be intrigued. More than 70 hikes organized in 16 Italian regions will offer participants the opportunity to discover the trails of the Protected Areas with a total of nearly 8,000 km of trail, with initiatives ranging from cognitive hikes to the maintenance of trails and signage, and the inauguration of newly restored trails. A day that tells about territories and populations.
The “red/white/red” trail marker flag is the guide for each trail, a signage shared on a national basis according to CAI standards, which is useful to make it easier to walk on trails that may be more or less strenuous (to be chosen and traveled responsibly, always considering and evaluating personal competence, skill and experience, since these are activities in the mountain environment that can be dangerous for the hiker and the practitioners).
Abruzzo also has some events to offer:
- CAI Teramo is participating in the event with a series of themed events lasting three days, uniting the marine and mountain environments with a single thread; the aim is to promote hiking, nature culture and increase knowledge and respect for good practices within protected areas. On Sunday, June 9, there will be a hike on the trails from Pietracamela to the Mignari Meadows Hill, then up to the Montagnone to admire the beautiful blooms, flowering trees, deep green meadows and views of the Gran Sasso mountain range. The appointment is for any tourist, visitor, hiker or mountaineer who is willing to move as a simple observer or as a protagonist;
- CAI Pescara proposes a round trip in the Abruzzo-Lazio-Molise National Park that requires the use of appropriate technical trekking equipment. The route is about 10 kilometers with an elevation gain of more than five hundred meters, so good athletic training is required;
- The Castelli and Teramo Section, together with the Gran Sasso Laga National Park Section, offers the opportunity for students to hike in the Foothills area, which allows for landscape, cultural and naturalistic approaches by traveling through cultivated areas and natural environments.
