Strada dei Parchi, commitment kept: Tornimparte interchange reopens to inbound and outbound traffic

The Tornimparte toll booth on the A24 freeway today as of 2 p.m. reopened, both inbound and outbound, in both directions.

The reopening of this section to traffic is ahead of the opening forecast, which as first announced indicated a date close to the winter season. Travelers who will be driving during the Immaculate Conception bridge will be able to exit at the Tornimparte tollbooth both coming from Rome and Teramo, and enter the highway in both directions.
The Tornimparte tollbooth on the A24 is crucial for winter tourism and for all skiers who will be reaching the Ovindoli and Campo Felice ski facilities in the coming weeks.

On this section of the highway, work is being done on the viaducts to make them earthquake-resistant. An imposing job from a technical and logistical point of view.
In order to allow the reopening, Strada dei Parchi technicians have planned to move the construction site close to the junction. To minimize traffic disruptions, alternate night closures are planned for the section between the Tornimparte and L’Aquila Ovest junction. This is to ensure that the seismic upgrading work is carried out, working at night on the construction site and trying to limit disruptions to traffic.
The work that will make this viaduct, in the middle of the seismic crater of L’Aquila, able to withstand strong earthquakes has thus entered its final phase.
The one in Sant’Onofrio will in fact be the first large viaduct completely earthquake-proof built on the highway in a high mountain area, 1100 meters above sea level.

On the roadway, which has been completely removed in recent months, the new deck is being erected that will rest on the piers, which were previously reinforced to withstand seismic actions. Each individual span, which together with the others will form the structure of the new viaduct, is being lifted by cranes and placed between two support points, thus forming the new highway roadway.

Motorists reaching the area will travel on a new generation highway, on a viaduct whose completely new and elastic structure will be able to withstand earthquakes.
