Cinema and literature under the stars in the heart of Chieti

Chieti is preparing to welcome a week of great cinema and literature with the outdoor festival “Cinema da Sfogliare.” From July 23 to July 31, Largo Cremonesi will be transformed into an atmospheric film arena, offering audiences the opportunity to immerse themselves in compelling stories from novels by contemporary writers.

The initiative, enthusiastically promoted by the association The Garden of Public Readings in collaboration with the City of Chieti, is supported by Toto Holding. It is an event that aims to enhance culture and offer moments of entertainment and reflection to the citizenry, set in a small square to be discovered, nestled among the alleys of the historic center.

The program features five carefully selected cinematic works, all with a deep connection to the world of literature. It starts on Wednesday, July 23, with a critically acclaimed masterpiece, “The Eight Mountains” by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch. This film, winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, promises to excite and make people reflect on universal themes such as friendship and the relationship with nature. It will be followed by “The Master Who Promised the Sea,” “Chocolat,” and the latest work written and directed by Pedro Almodovar, “The Room Next Door,” a dramatic double female portrait starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore based on American writer Sigrid Nunez’s novel “Through Life.”

The festival will conclude on Thursday, July 31, with another impactful film, “The Right to Count.” This 2016 film, which received three Oscar nominations, tells the true story of Katherine Johnson, the African-American scientist whose calculations made the Apollo 11 mission possible. “Cinema da Sfogliare” awaits you in Chieti for a summer of culture and entertainment under the starry sky.
