Historic Sulmona-Isernia train: the journey on the Parks Railway on April 25 and 26

The weekend of April 25 and 26 sees the return of one of the most eagerly awaited events in Italian rail tourism: the Sulmona-Isernia historic train, an extraordinary journey along the 128 kilometers of the Parks Railway, which has been fully reopened after a seven-year wait.

On Saturday, April 25, the historic train will travel from Abruzzo to Molise, while on Sunday, April 26, it will take the reverse route, giving passengers an authentic slow travel experience through the central Apennines.

A time travel experience

To board the historic Sulmona-Isernia train is to rediscover the slow pace of travel of yesteryear. The vintage carriages, with wooden interiors and large windows, offer a privileged view of one of Italy’s most striking railway landscapes.

The route crosses silent plateaus, deep valleys and small Apennine villages, which seem to look out to greet the passage of the convoy, turning the journey into a true tale in motion.

From the Plain of Cinquemiglia to Upper Molise.

From the Cinquemiglia Plain to the mountains ofUpper Molise, the historic train traverses rugged and unspoiled territories, snow-covered in winter and bright in summer, where nature is the absolute protagonist.

On board, time slows down: it’s not the destination that matters, but the journey itself, made up of slow-flowing landscapes, shared waits, gazes that are lost on the horizon, and stories exchanged between passengers.

The Parks Railway: culture, memory and slow tourism

The Parks Railway is not only a historic railway line, but a true cultural and scenic experience. This itinerary invites people to rediscover a different way of traveling, in which the train becomes a collective memory and the territory is revealed curve after curve along the track.

An ideal trip for those who love slow tourism, railroad history, Apennine villages and the great natural spaces between Abruzzo and Molise.
