All sports activities carried out in the high mountains must follow certain behavior patterns and safety rules to avoid creating dangers to oneself and other people. In addition to conscientious, careful and prudent behavior, there is a real“skier’s handbook“(you can find it on the website of the State Police) that, together with the signs of the facilities, composes the rules of behavior for those who practice alpine skiing and snowboarding, including those contained in Legislative Decree 40/2021.
Let’s see what these rules and obligations are to encourage the best use of ski slopes in order to avoid danger to people and prevent damage.
OBLIGATIONS
- helmets are compulsory for everyone up to age 18; offenders face a fine of 100 to 150 euros;
- insurance is mandatory for all who use the alpine ski slopes. The fine for violators ranges from 100 to 150 euros, in addition to the withdrawal of the ski pass;
- there is a ban on skiing while intoxicated as a result of alcohol and drug use on the slopes with fines of up to 1,000 euros;
- skiers are required to obey signs and, just as in a car, the obligation of right of way for those coming from the right remains: a skier entering a slope or restarting after a stop must ensure that he can do so without danger to himself or others;
- in the event of an accident, it is mandatory to render aid and report the presence of an injured person: failure to do so is criminally sanctioned by law.
RULES OF CONDUCT ON THE TRACK
- every skier and snowboarder must behave in a manner that does not endanger the safety of others;
- the upstream skier and snowboarder, having a dominant position and thus the choice of the route to be taken, must keep a direction that avoids the danger of collision with the downstream skier and maintain a safe distance with those ahead;
- many accidents are caused byexcessive speed; every skier or snowboarder must keep a speed appropriate to his or her ability and to the conditions of the slope and the view. Speed should be such that it allows timely stopping in case of danger or in crowded areas;
- when overtaking you must maintain a distance such that you do not get in the way of the overtaken skier;
- stopping should always be done along the edges of the slope: the skier should avoid stopping along the slopes, in forced passages and in areas with poor visibility; in case of a fall or injury, one should try to reach the edge as soon as possible.
After showing you how to experience the mountains safely, we only have to wish you: enjoy!
