A25, San Domenico tunnel: high technology for tunnel inspection

Work has been going on inside the San Domenico tunnel on the A25 for about a month.
Tunnels on the A24 and A25 have always been checked twice a year. Meter by meter. A visual check done by specialized personnel. On a quarterly basis. And then once a year, the analysis is carried out more thoroughly.
But why was it necessary to close one of the longest tunnels on our entire highway network for such a long time this time?
The new method adopted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is called the “Tunnel Inspection Manual.” And it sets new parameters with which to carry out inspections inside highway tunnels.

In this video we show you how inspections were carried out inside the large tunnel that connects the Peligna Valley to Marsica.
