Chieti receives the title of European City of Sport 2025

The city of Chieti received the title of ‘European City of Sport 2025’ at a proclamation ceremony held in Rome at the headquarters of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). In the presence of top sports institutions and Europarliamentarians, Gian francesco Lupattelli, president of Aces Europe, presented the award to the city’s sports councillor Manuel Pantalone.

The award-winning cities included Ascoli Piceno, Jesolo, Mogliano Veneto, Novara, Seregno, Taranto and Venaria Reale, in addition to the capital city of Marrucino.

The words of Sports Councillor Manuel Pantalone

“This is an important recognition for our city,” commented Sports Councillor Manuel Pantalone, “which we as an administration have worked on together with the municipal offices, which I would like to take this opportunity to thank and, above all, with the vast and lively world of sports in the area, which, together with the work on municipal facilities, structural assets and our sports history, has been an essential added value in crossing this milestone.”

“It will be a year, 2025, under the banner of sports, major sports events, and initiatives in which we will involve the highest national sports authorities. – continues the councillor – We thank Aces Europe, the national Coni, Sport and Health and the Department the Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and all the institutions that accompany this recognition for betting on us and recognizing the potential of Chieti. We begin a phase of close work in preparation for the events, very soon we will also start the process of establishing the Organizing Committee precisely of the European City of Sport and we will start further upgrades of facilities, starting with the federal technical center of handball, at the Santa Filomena Pala on which we will direct the funding obtained from the cohesion fund.”
