The XXVI European Athletics Championships return to Italy fifty years after the last edition organized in 1974, also then in the capital.
In Rome from June 7 to 12, the Olympic Stadium (with a new athletics track set up for the event) will see 1629 athletes from 48 countries compete, with the participation of nine world champions and 34 Europeans. In addition to the Stadium, the Stadio dei Marmi, the Fountain of the Sphere, the Foro Italico Park and Rome’s most picturesque places and streets will also be the setting for the event. An exciting international sporting event, with a program that includes 6 days of competitions and 11 sessions, divided into 5 in the morning and 6 in the evening. The continent’s best athletes will compete in 24 different specialties, with 141 total medals up for grabs in the 47 finals of the competition. In addition, a Fan Village will be set up at the Foro Italico during the event, ready to host all fans with stands and an extensive entertainment program.
In addition, School Day will be celebrated on June 7: school students from all over Italy and their chaperones can enter by paying the symbolic price of 1 euro.
The event will precede the start of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris by fifty days and thus represents a fundamental competitive test for athletes ahead of the next Olympic event; in fact, all the best athletes on the continent are expected, starting with Italian champions Gianmarco Tamberi, Marcell Jacobs, Larissa Iapichino, Filippo Tortu and Antonella Palmisano.
However, ample space is also dedicated to amateurs and runners who, on Sunday, June 9, will be able to participate in the competitive and non-competitive race Rome 10K, which runs through the historic center with start and finish at the Imperial Forum.
