From Cathedral Square to the Gran Sasso, L’Aquila is Mountain City.

Abruzzo’s capital is preparing to celebrate mountains in all their forms from Oct. 30 to Nov. 4 with the first edition of the Festival “L’Aquila city of mountains, edition 2024” proposing a series of events dedicated to the Abruzzo region’s most prestigious mountains: the Gran Sasso and Campo Imperatore. The City is therefore preparing to experience a major event dedicated to the enhancement of its mountain territory; sports, culture and environmental sustainability will be the protagonists of this event that aims to involve citizens and visitors of all age groups. The initiative aims to promote and celebrate the extraordinary mountain resources of the territory, and one of the most anticipated moments of this edition will be the screening of the film“Monte Corno – Pareva che io fussi in aria,” a documentary that recounts the challenges and emotions of theascent of the Corno Grande, the highest peak of the Gran Sasso that took place in 1573. The film was sponsored by the Toto Holding, which is increasingly in the forefront of promoting and supporting the Abruzzo region, its events and natural resources.

From Nov. 1 to 3, moreover, Cathedral Square will be transformed into a living village, in fact the historic center of the city of L’Aquila will host a Village in the City open to all, with numerous activities designed for mountain, sports and culture enthusiasts. These will include the first “L’Aquila City of MountainsBoulder Contest. It will thus be a place of meeting and entertainment, designed to enhance the mountain soul of the city itself and offer a unique experience to visitors.

The event will feature prominent figures in the mountain and film worlds such as mountaineers Hervé Barmasse and Alex Txikon, journalist Alessandro Filippini, “Monte Corno” director Luca Cococcetta, and cast andlead actor Massimo Poggio.

An initiative created for the development of the L’Aquila area that aims to raise awareness of its living community of stories, people and deep ties to nature and its mountains.
