What happens behind the scenes when a fire breaks out inside a highway tunnel? In this video, we take a closer look at a complex emergency drill conducted in the Roviano Tunnel on the A24 highway, following all the stages of the operational response organized by “strada dei parchi”, the Fire Department, and the Emergency Medical Service (118).
From the Operations Center in Rome, where alerts are received and initial decisions are coordinated, all the way to the teams’ response on the scene, the video shows how the emergency response chain is activated in a particularly delicate situation: a collision between two vehicles, a fire breaking out, and an injured person inside the tunnel.
The drill makes it possible to assess the effectiveness of emergency procedures, response times, and coordination among the concessionaire, emergency response teams, and operations centers, in a confined environment where speed, communication, and precision are critical to people’s safety,
An opportunity to get a close look at work that is often invisible to highway users but is essential for ensuring a prompt and effective response in the event of a real emergency, making travel along the A24 and A25 highway network safer every day.
