Gran Sasso Tunnel: work has begun on cleaning the caps

Activities to clean the Gran Sasso tunnel caps have begun.

A new technique based on vacuuming the material to be removed without using water will be used for the work. Industrial vacuum cleaners have gone into operation. The tunnels have been isolated. Huge tarps have been spread along the road surface. So as to seal it.

Special sensors, which measure the healthiness of the air during activities, play a decisive role.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giancarlo Cancelleri attended the start of work by the Road of Parks teams.

Fifteen teams of skilled workers will be at work on both tunnels each 10 kilometers long.
Cleaning the vault of the two tunnels will take 40 days. Work will be done at night to minimize disruption to highway traffic
