Golden rules and good advice for long journeys

Respect for the rules and the highest level of care: those who choose to travel on the road, by car or other means, must do so with awareness so as not to create danger to themselves and others.

BEFORE GOING ON THE JOURNEY, on days that may record heavy traffic data, you should necessarily check the efficiency of your vehicle by doing a thorough check of the water and oil level in the engine, the functionality of the brakes and the condition of the tires.

In addition, it is necessary to remember the other good tips for traveling safely:

  • Choose smart departures by avoiding, if possible, the most critical days and hours for car traffic
  • Plan the trip and learn about alternate routes by also inquiring about construction sites that remain open and alternate routes
  • Keep abreast of traffic and weather conditions at all times
  • Leave with small comfort items on board, water especially, particularly if traveling with children
  • Arrange luggage rationally by balancing weights and not overloading the car
  • Identify a proper location for animal transport
  • avoid large meals and alcohol
  • be sufficiently rested
  • Avoid taking medications that give attention-limiting effects

DURING TRAVEL , compliance with the rules of the Highway Code is of particular importance. Traffic Police, especially on the most critical days, intensify vigilance checks on motorists’ safety to prevent accidents and traffic disruptions.

In this regard, one should not forget:

  • keep seat belts fastened
  • Use the appropriate seats for children
  • Do not be distracted while driving by radio and cell phone
  • comply with speed limits, which in each case should be adjusted to the contingent conditions of the road, traffic and weather
  • keep low beams on on the highway
  • keep a safe distance
  • have caution in overtaking
  • Always wear a protective helmet when riding or traveling on motorcycles and mopeds
  • do not engage the emergency lanes
  • Make frequent stops to break up the monotony of the journey especially if you feel tired
