The Eternal City is gearing up for the event that draws fans from around the world every year, theAcea Run Rome The Marathon. It will be run on Sunday, March 17, starting at 8:30 a.m. in Via dei Fori Imperiali, along a route of more than 42 kilometers that will touch some of the most evocative and characteristic places in Rome.
Record-breaking edition
It is the largest participated sports event in the history of Italy. In fact, the 29th edition of the marathon, which represents a perfect marriage between the sporting spirit and the millennial enchantment of Rome, is enriched by four records: the record number of registered participants for an Italian marathon (more than 19 thousand), record number of foreign participants (more than 10 thousand), record number of official race pacers (200 of which more than 100 foreigners) from 15 countries, and finally the record number of group training runs, the Get Ready, of which 5 were held in Rome and more than 30 around the world. For a total of 40 thousand participants who will also run the Acea Run4Rome solidarity relay and the 5-kilometer Fun Run extracity run.
Not just running. The event is open to everyone, including Fitwalking enthusiasts, who with the support of dedicated guides will be able to engage in sports walking throughout the route at appropriate paces, from the relatively relaxed 6h30′ pace to the more performance-oriented 5h45′.
A race through time: the route
The unique setting in which the event takes place adds a touch of magic to the race. The streets of the historic center are transformed into an atmospheric route that leads participants to speed past millennia-old monuments. Every step is a plunge into the past. It starts from the Imperial Forum with the passage in front of the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, laying eyes on the Palatine Hill and Circus Maximus, and then sees a parade of St. Peter’s Basilica, Castel Sant’Angelo, Foro Italico, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza di Spagna with the famous Spanish Steps of Trinità dei Monti, Piazza Navona, the steps of Santa Maria in Aracoeli and the Capitol, the Theatre of Marcellus, passing by the Circus Maximus, until the last kilometer back in front of the Arch of Constantine and the Colosseum.
