The Magic of Festiv’Alba: Music in the Ancient Churches of Abruzzo

Love songs and street songs by La Vertuosa Compagnia de’ Musici di Roma in the medieval church of San Pietro in Albe —and so concludes the opening of the tenth edition of Festiv’Alba, amid the applause of an audience that was at first curious and silent but was then swept up by the wit and liveliness of the villanelles.

Classical and Early Music Concerts in the Historic Abbeys of Marsica

Once again in 2026, Festiv’Alba renews its unique cultural journey through the most fascinating historic churches and abbeys of the Marsica region. The program expands the number of events dedicated to classical, medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music, held in sacred sites protected by the state, where art, history, and landscape come together in a unique experience.

The festival’s lineup includes performances featuring folk music from Southern Italy, Spain, South America, and Turkey, as well as a special evening dedicated to the music of Ennio Morricone.

Fifteen concerts in Alba Fucens, Rosciolo, and Scurcola Marsicana

The program features 15 concerts held in some of the most beautiful religious buildings in the Abruzzo Apennines:

  • Church of San Pietro in Albe in Alba Fucens (Massa d’Albe);
  • Abbey of Santa Maria in Valle Porclaneta in Rosciolo;
  • Church of the Holy Trinity in Scurcola Marsicana;
  • Church of St. Anthony of Padua in Scurcola Marsicana.

The festival also celebrates important cultural anniversaries, including the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi and the 400th anniversary of the death of the English composer John Dowland.

More than 50 musicians from all over Italy and abroad

About 50 artists will participate in the 2026 edition of Festiv’Alba. Musicians from Italy, Poland, Morocco, Turkey, and Russia will perform a repertoire of great artistic and cultural value in the ancient churches of Abruzzo.

Free Concerts in Rocca di Cambio and Rocca di Mezzo

In addition to the main program, Festiv’Alba features a second section with five free concerts held in the historic abbeys and churches of Rocca di Cambio and Rocca di Mezzo.

Among the venues,the Abbey of Santa Lucia stands out; it will host four consecutive concerts, while the Church of Santa Maria ad Nives in Rocca di Mezzo makes its debut at the festival.

How to get to Festiv’Alba via the A24 and A25 highways

The concert venues are easily accessible via the A24 Rome-Teramo and A25 Torano-Pescara highways. By exiting at the Avezzano or Magliano de’ Marsi toll plazas, visitors can quickly reach the festival locations: about an hour and a half from Rome, an hour and twenty minutes from Teramo, 40 minutes from L’Aquila, and just over an hour from Chieti and Pescara.
