Flavours on the go

The journey continues, from the Glorie di Scanno to the chestnuts of Turano

Another weekend to hit the road and explore traditional routes along the A24 and A25

The journey to discover the flavors of fall in Lazio and Abruzzo continues. From November 6 to 8, the main event takes place in Scanno, where DeguScanno transforms one of Abruzzo’s most picturesque villages into a grand culinary journey dedicated to the region’s products and culinary excellence. An event that combines good food, music, tours, and excursions, allowing you to discover the colors and flavors of a hidden gem in the Sagittario Valley.

The event showcases local producers, featuring cheeses, cured meats, desserts, and other regional specialties. The program combines food and wine with hiking, guided tours of the village, and live music, turning the event into an opportunity to get to know Scanno through its history and the surrounding landscape.

At the height of the event, on the evening of November 8, one of the many traditions for which Scanno is known throughout the region will take place. The lighting of the Glorie di San Martino—bonfires erected on the “palanconi” by the local districts to celebrate, through a ritual of pagan origin, the slow retreat of sunlight in the fall, the end of the warm season, and to ensure a bountiful harvest.

An ancestral tradition, chronicled in “Uomini e Fuochi. The Rite of the Glorianti of Scanno,” the documentary by Andrea Frenguelli that captures the timeless gestures of the “glorianti,” produced by PostMedia and Blu Magma and awarded Best Documentary at the AS Film Festival (ASFF) in Rome in 2019.

To reach Scanno, take the Cocullo exit off the A25 and continue toward the Sagittario Valley along a route that is particularly scenic at this time of year, until you reach the village and its famous lake.

The 24th Chestnut Festival in Paganico Sabino

For those who have been following the chestnut-themed events held over the past few weeks along the A24 and A25 highways, the journey isn’t over yet. On Sunday, November 8, the 24th Paganico Sabino Chestnut Festival returns to Paganico Sabino, perfectly rounding out the itinerary of villages and festivals dedicated to one of this season’s most iconic products.

Starting at 12:30 p.m., it’s time to enjoy a meal featuring homemade pasta, sausage, and bruschetta, as well as broccoli rabe and chestnuts, while stands offering local specialties, exhibits, and music will provide entertainment throughout the day. Paganico Sabino, in the Turano Valley, can be reached from the A24 via the Carsoli/Oricola exit.

A feast for the eyes and the palate

From the heart-shaped lake of Scanno to the scenic lake in the Turano Valley, we invite you to enjoy a leisurely weekend, immersing yourself in the colors, traditions, and flavors of autumn. Two different opportunities to rediscover the local products, traditions, and landscapes of the regions traversed and connected by the A24 and A25 highways.

Before leaving, it’s always a good idea to check the programs, schedules, and any changes on the organizers’ official channels.
